To celebrate Cinco de Mayo, on May 5th 2024 Vancity Original® Brand is dropping a limited-edition capsule collection created in collaboration with Jeff Martin aka Mister Martini’s favourite tequila – Espolòn - an award-winning premium tequila that embodies the spirit of Mexico – a rebel spirit full of music, colour, pride and camaraderie. The Vancity Original® x Espolòn tequila collection comprises a range of limited-edition hooded sweatshirts, t-shirts, snapbacks and bucket hats inspired by the blending of traditional Mexican culture and Vancouver’s urban street culture.
To develop the collection, Espolòn invited Jeff for a trip to Mexico City which dazzled with street art, incredible food, Lucha Libre fight and overall sensory overload of colour, flavour and vibrant urban culture. The legacy of one of Mexico’s famous artists, Jose G. Posada - the inspiration behind Espolòn Tequila bottle design – still permeates the streets of Mexico and is a significant influence on urban culture of modern Mexico.
Visiting the Posada Museum in Aguascalientes, taking in his rebellious spirit and trying a hand at his signature art, lithography, was a huge inspiration behind the Vancity Original® x Espolòn collection.
Drawing inspiration from the trip and working alongside Malamen @lifeofmalamen, a Mexican artist based in Canada, Jeff created a final design that is a unique blend of colour that embodies a modern take on the Jose Posada style of art featuring mariachi, Lucha Libre, and the Aztec God of Rain - a subtle nod to Vancouver.
